Avoid Wearing Tight Pants While Pregnant

During pregnancy, you will also be putting on weight quickly. With a change in your figure, you will have to think carefully about what you should or should not wear. It is not always a question about what looks good on you, but it is a lot more about what is safe to wear during pregnancy. For example, wearing tight pants while pregnant may not be a good idea.

Why You Cannot Wear Tight Pants During Pregnancy

Here are some of the most common issues associated with wearing tight pants during pregnancy.

You May Develop Heartburn

Tight-fitting pants can cause heartburn. You are likely to develop heartburn and acid reflux during pregnancy because your digestive system becomes slower due to an increase in progesterone. Wearing tight pants is only going to make matters worse by pushing on the stomach and forcing its contents upwards towards your chest.

You May Experience Pain

Wearing tight pants while pregnant can cause pain in your abdominal region. Wearing other tight clothes during pregnancy can cause pain in the chest and arms.

You May Develop Yeast Infection

Wearing tight pants can increase your risk of developing yeast infections in pregnancy. You will notice increased vaginal secretions when you are pregnant and wearing tight underwear will provide a perfect environment for yeast to thrive.

You May Develop Numbness

During pregnancy, your blood vessels expand to help supply more blood to the baby. Wearing tight pants can slow circulation. This may even cut off blood circulation to the legs and produce a tingling sensation or numbness.

More Clothes to Avoid During Pregnancy

You have gathered the fact that wearing tight pants while pregnant can cause several complications. However, there are many other types of clothes you may want to avoid when you are pregnant. For instance:

  • Anything made from synthetics such as polyester should be avoided. These materials are not breathable and can cause skin irritation. Look for clothes made from natural fibers to keep moisture away from your skin and lower your risk of dealing with rashes and itchiness.
  • It is better to avoid clothes that take a lot of effort to take off. You will notice a considerable increase in the number of bathroom visits, so you should be wearing something that is easy to undo.
  • Avoid long dresses because they increase your risk of falling down.
  • Avoid regular bras and buy maternity bras that are comfortable to wear.
  • Do not wear extremely loose clothes in an effort to hide the baby bump. It is always better to wear nice maternity outfits.
  • Never wear high heels while pregnant. They can be extremely uncomfortable and increase your risk of falling down.

How to Wear in Different Trimesters

Wearing tight pants while pregnant is not a good idea, but you may still manage to wear your favorite pants a couple of times if it is just the start of your pregnancy. What it means is that something that may be suitable for the first trimester may not work great in the third trimester. Here is how to make a choice.

Maternity Clothes for the 1st Trimester

Your uterus is still a pelvic organ during the first three months and is well protected by the boney rim of the pelvis. At the start of this phase, you can continue to wear your regular clothes. You may start noticing some fat deposition in your lower abdomen by the end of your third month. This is when you may not be able to wear your regular skirts and pants. Undoing the top button and wearing a belt may help resolve the issue though. You will be better off wearing drawstring skirts and pants at this stage.

Maternity Clothes for the 2nd Trimester

During your second trimester, your baby bump is usually not that obvious. You do not have to make many changes to your wardrobe yet. However, with the passage of time, your bump will become bigger and you will have to wear maternity clothes. Your breasts will become enlarged and you will notice fat deposition all over the body – even your feet may increase in size by an inch or so.

You can still wear drawstring skirts and pants, but be sure to opt for cotton clothes to stay comfortable. You can also wear loose tops and shirts with tunic tops and jackets to conceal the bump. Be sure to select a new pair of shoes because your foot size will increase and a change in your center of gravity may affect your balance too.

Maternity Clothes for the 3rd Trimester

Your uterus will increase in size during the 3rd trimester and your pregnancy will become very prominent. Wear loose cotton clothes and avoid bulky knits at this stage. You can opt for wrap style tops and try elasticized maternity trousers for maximum comfort. The good thing about maternity trousers is that they come with panels that you can adjust as per your size. Be sure to wear a well-fitting maternity bra at this stage. You may also have to buy new shoes because it is common to have swollen feet and ankles during the 3rd trimester.
